KTM announces Coma unable to ride in Dakar 2013

KTM, the brand whose factory teams and bikes have sealed eleven consecutive Dakar Rally victories announced in a press conference in Barcelona on Friday that one of its key riders, Spaniard Marc Coma will be unable to ride in the 2013 edition of the world's most famous rally. Coma, who injured his shoulder in an accident in the Morocco Rally in October is not completely fit. The team has therefore decided he should not tackle the event that involves more than 8000 km of perilous riding over the world's toughest offroad terrain through Peru, Argentina and Chile. "Marc is one of our key riders and together with his teammate Cyril Despres has giving KTM the last seven Dakar titles. While we are disappointed that he is unable to ride, the health and welfare of our factory riders is the most important consideration. If he is not 100 percent fit, it is better for him to sit out the 2013 rally," said KTM factory team manager Alex Doringer. Coma, winner of three Dakar titles and the reigning World Cross Country World Championship is, together with his teammate Despres, recognized as one of the world's finest exponents of rally sport. A deeply disappointed Coma spoke after the press conference saying: "We worked really hard with the doctors and the physiotherapists right up until the last minute but we have to be realistic. One of the muscles in my shoulder is still giving me problems and there is a lack of movement. This is the logical consequence and we must be honest and clear about the situation." Coma, who will now concentrate his efforts on regaining complete fitness ahead of the rest of the 2013 season and looking forward to the Dakar 2014 said he was sad for the team but underlined that the Dakar is a 'winning project' for KTM so there was no alternative than to make this announcement. Team manager Alex Doringer said he hoped Marc would be at the start in Lima to wish the team well and see them launch their attack.
Doringer underlined that in view of the high profile that the Dakar Rally has for KTM, that the company had always taken the precaution of having a reserve rider registered with the Dakar organizers, ASO. He said they had now given the green light for the accredited reserve rider to step in and ride Coma's KTM 450 Rally bike. "We always took the precaution to have a reserve rider properly registered in case of such circumstances and it will be KTM USA's Kurt Caselli who will step in to ride Coma's bike. We want him to ride the Dakar without any pressure, embrace the adventure and learn from the experience," Doringer said. Caselli is at the forefront of the US offroad scene and is the current AMA National Hare and Hound Champion. He is a multiple national title winner in premium US offroad events, has been a stalwart in the US International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) Championship and was a member of the KTM team that recently finished second in the 2012 edition of the legendary Baja 1000. Caselli's start number is yet to be confirmed. Kurt Caselli: "It has always been a goal in my career to compete in the Dakar. There would be no way possible for me to achieve this without the ongoing support of KTM. To be able to race the greatest off road race in the world aboard the best bike in the world is truly a blessing. This is not only a milestone in my career but also in my life."Communication KTM Racing News -www.ktm.com-

Yamaha Motor Racing - Brief
Yamaha Motor Racing or Yamaha Factory Racing is the official factory team of Yamaha in MotoGP. It founded in 1999 following the retirement of Wayne Rainey, who had run a factory-supported team in the 500 cc class for the previous two years. The team was originally based in the Netherlands but was relocated in Italy in 2002.Max Biaggi and Carlos Checa raced for the team from 1999 to 2002. Max Biaggi achieved a total of 9 race wins in that period, first riding the Yamaha YZR500 and later the Yamaha YZR-M1 in 2002.In 2003, Checa was joined by Marco Melandri. The team had an average season with no wins or podiums. For 2004 Valentino Rossi joined Carlos Checa at the team. Rossi got 9 wins and won the championship.Colin Edwards joined the team for 2005. Rossi once again won the championship, collecting 11 wins. Both riders stayed with the team for 2006. Rossi earned 5 wins and finished 2nd in the championship. For the 2007 season, both riders remained with the team riding the new 800cc Yamaha YZR-M1. Rossi had 4 wins and finished the season 3rd overall. For 2008, Yamaha had a unique line-up with Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. Although the pair were fighting for the title from different pit boxes (as Valentino Rossi chose to use Bridgestone tyres and as Jorge Lorenzo continued with Michelin), Yamaha operated as one brand and not two separate manufacturers. The title was won dominantly by the returning hero Rossi who won 9 of the 18 races and finished on the podium in every race except for two. Even though this was the learning year for Jorge Lorenzo, the Spanish star was able to cruise to victory at Estoril and finished 4th in the championship. In 2009, Yamaha dominated MotoGP with Rossi winning the title and Lorenzo finishing second. The pair won 10 out of the 17 races, and Yamaha won the Constructors' Championship.

What about Kimi?

Just curious as to the view on Kimi Raikkonen and his return to F1 this year. Though he obviously has a lot of fans there hasn't been that much discussion regarding him this year.

With all the fighting up front, he quietly managed a number of podiums, finished ahead of both McLaren drivers as well as the second Red Bull, and ended the season with more than double the points of his team mate Grosjean.

I'm sure his off track drive around in Brazil will be remembered by many, but overall he didn't make many such bonehead moves.

I think he drove a good season, and quite a good return to the track. Though not in the real fight for the title, he managed to place third without hardly being noticed. What does everyone else have to say?

Emma Bristow is joining the Sherco team

It was a very exciting time in December 2012 for Ladies Vice World Champion Emma Bristow as she announced that she would be leaving Ossa to join the Sherco Team for an assault on the 2013 trials season.  Emma Bristow "I am very happy to be joining the Sherco team for the next two years where I shall be competing once again at the top level of the sport in the World Trials Championship, Scottish Six Days, British Trials Championship and the Scott time and observation trial plus other selected events"."At the world championship events I will be supported by the Sherco factory team and in the UK at the other events I will receive support from the official Sherco importers Malcolm Rathmell Sport"."The move from Ossa to Sherco was taken after much thought and consideration but I could not be happier with how things have worked out for me. The decision was more or less made for me when I witnessed the commitment from Sherco and in particular its World Championship contender Albert Cabestany. The company has demonstrated to me its commitment to achieving my ultimate goal of Ladies World Trials Champion and for this real life changing opportunity I would like to thank them. This is where I need to be and who I need to be with"."I will based in Spain for 2013 where I will start training with the factory squad in January having spent the last few weeks in December 2012 getting to know the new machine and the personnel I will be dealing with. Albert works very hard and every day we are training on the Sherco then cycling or in the gym, I just cannot believe how much tuition and support I am getting from him"."Whilst I am elated at joining Sherco I must acknowledge the support I received from the Ossa Factory and in particular Nigel and June Birkett. They gave me 100% and without their generous backing and support I would not be in the position I am today in trials, I would like to thank them for this"."Before I sign of for 2012 I would also like to thank everyone who has supported me, all my sponsors, team and friends, it has been very much appreciated and kept me very focussed, a big thank you to you all"."Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" - EmmaCommunication Emma Bristow Media Service

Who F1 Fanatic readers supported in 2012 | 2012 F1 season review

Jenson Button, McLaren, Yas Marina, 2012As 2012 draws to a close, here’s a final look at who F1 Fanatic readers were supporting this year.

Drivers

When we last looked at who F1 Fanatic readers were supporting Jenson Button had just become first to pass 1,000 supporters.

Now Lewis Hamilton has passed that milestone too. And Kimi Raikkonen is not far off, having moved up into third place.

Fernando Alonso’s efforts won him a lot of praise this year and he’s moved ahead of Mark Webber in fourth place.

But success doesn’t always lead to popularity. Sebastian Vettel only ranks ninth on the list despite his three world championships.

And despite scoring the first win for Williams in eight years, Pastor Maldonado’s fans here number less than 100.

Confirmed: Marc Coma to Miss 2013 Dakar Rally

As expected yesterday, KTM made an official announcement today regarding the participation of Marc Coma in the 2013 Dakar Rally, and simply stated that the three-time winner of the race will be unable to compete due to injuries he sustained to his shoulder in the Rally of Morocco. The news leaves KTM’s Cyril Despres as the runaway favorite for winning this upcoming edition of The Dakar. “We worked really hard with the doctors and the ...
