IOMTT: Superbike TT Postponed Until Sunday

Having seen too many practice sessions affected by the weather, Clerk of the Course Gary Thompson was left with little choice but to postpone what would have been the first race of the Isle of Man TT, taking the opinion that the riders hadn’t had enough time on the Mountain Course — a point-of-view that [...]

Honda Releases First Image Of Production Racer MotoGP Machine - And It Looks Familiar

Honda Racing Corporation today issued the first photo of their Production Racer, to be sold to MotoGP teams for the 2014 season.

The photo was taken during the Motegi test at which Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki participated, which also featured the first semi-public run out of Suzuki's MotoGP machine. While times were reported by German-language website Speedweek, (see our time comparison here), no times were available for Honda's production racer. Honda comments only in a press release (see below) that the results were 'more than what we had expected' in the words of HRC Vice President Shuhei Nakamoto.

Junior WRC battle resumes in Greece

Story from www.wrc.com

The drivers will tackle ten Acropolis stages in identical two-wheel drive Ford Fiesta R2s, shod with Hankook gravel tyres and powered, for the first time, by GEM biofuel.*
The entries are led by Pontus Tidemand who won the opening round in Portugal and tops the Junior WRC standings wth 30 points. The Swede tackled the Acropolis in 2012, when he was a WRC Academy driver, but retired with a driveshaft failure when he was fighting for third.*
As part of his Acropolis preparations, Tidemand recently competed in Rally Sørland, the third round of the 2013 Norwegian Rally Championship, winning the 2WD category and finishing third overall in a Fiesta R2.*
"Winning the Junior WRC competition in Portugal was amazing, especially against such tough competition,” said Tidemand. “Acropolis Rally could be even harder as temperatures can be high and the stages are tricky to tackle in an R2. I know the event a little and I hope we can finish on the podium this year - but I know it won't be easy."
Spaniard José Suarez finished second to Tidemand in the Algarve and trails him by 10 championship points. Another former WRC Academy driver, Suarez was fifth in Greece in 2012, and received a confidence boost last weekend when he won the R2 category of the Rally Santander Cantabria – the second round of the Spanish Tarmac Rally Championship
"I'm looking forward to Acropolis Rally. It's a great event, very challenging and technical. With an R2 you have to be careful and clever, because you can easily damage the car on the rocky stages. We'll do everything we can to get the best result possible in Greece. I'm still looking for my first win on gravel."
Despite showing good pace in Portugal, Canary Islander Yeray Lemes – another former WRC Academy driver - and Norway’s Marius Aasen both suffered misfortunes and are looking to set the record straight in Greece.*
Joininhg them will be six other drivers: Andreas Amberg (FIN), Martin Koci (SVK), Niko-Pekka Nieminen (FIN), Sander Pärn (EST), Murat Bostanci and Michael Burri (SUI).*
Biographies of each of the 2013 Junior WRC competitors can be found here.*

HJC RPHA-10 Helmets

There is no question that the HJC RPHA-10 is one of the best deals out there when it comes to helmets and we’ve already shown you the models sporting the replica graphics of MotoGP racers, Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies. The RPHA-10 race replicas are not the only options, however, and while already affordable in those trims, they become an even better value in some of the other graphics. We will be giving you a look at them in this thread - starting with the curiously named, but very good looking RPHA-10 Zappy.

The shell of the RPHA-10 is an advanced composite that combines carbon fiber, fiberglass epoxy, aramid epoxy and organic fibers in a precisely aligned weave that excels in strength, energy absorption and weight savings. HJC calls this their Performance Integrated Matrix (P.I.M.) construction and it saves weight by reducing unnecessary overlap and resin build-up. The PIM shell is not only strong and light, but it is also aerodynamic and quiet thanks to extensive CAD design and wind-tunnel testing.

A hot helmet is an uncomfortable helmet, so HJC made sure that the RPHA-10 is able to keep your head cool and comfortable in warm weather. Ventilation comes from two large intakes on the top of the head, and one on the chin. All three are highly adjustable to allow for variable amounts of airflow depending on the conditions. These vents move a lot of air through the helmet without the higher noise levels that can come from some ventilation systems. Inside the shell, the full-removable/washable SilverCool liner helps wick away moisture and features a Gingko extract coating for a natural anti-bacterial guard.

All RPHA-10 helmets come with HJC’s newest HJ-20 Pinlock shield and insert for the best in fog prevention. These shields also feature an easy to use center locking mechanism that prevents the shield from accidentally popping open if you turn your head to look behind you or to the sides.

If you’re interested any of the RPHA-10 graphics, or other HJC helmet, you can get in touch with Brad for expert sizing advice and more information. Feel free to send him a message through this forum or give him a call at 866.931.6644 ext. 810. You can also send an email to FORUM at RIDERSDISCOUNT dot COM and we’ll get back to you right away!

The HJC RPHA-10 Zappy is shown here in the Red/White/Blue, but it is also available in a Black/White/Grey. The Zappy graphic is very sharp and features a red that fades to a slight orange tone from front to back.

Daily Motorcycle News • Rea second at Donington as Haslam returns

Rea second at #Donington as #Haslam returns

Jonathan Rea set the second-fastest time in this afternoon’s truncated first qualifying session at Donington Park in the UK in preparation for Sunday’s two fifth-round World Superbike championship races.

The Pata Honda rider sat out this morning’s free practice session, which was held in atrociously cold, wet and windy conditions. However, Rea lapped the 4.023km Donington Park circuit in a time of 1m31.560s this afternoon to take provisional second place behind pace setter Tom Sykes, who crashed unhurt as rain fell at the end of the session.

His Pata Honda team-mate, Leon Haslam, passed a medical this morning just four weeks after breaking his left-leg at Assen in the Netherlands. The 29-year-old has been undergoing intensive therapy after an operation on 28 April to insert a pin in his tibia.

Haslam also sat out this morning’s free practice, and was able to complete just a few laps in the cold and windy conditions this afternoon before the rain returned, ending the session early.

Jonathan Rea – P2, 1m31.560s

It was OK today but it’s never ideal in those track conditions. We decided to sit out FP1 this morning because I don’t think there was much to be gained in those really, really wet conditions and the weather forecast says it’s going to improve. In qualifying we went out straight away because I wanted some kind of feeling and we have no data from this circuit for the new electronics package. We couldn’t make a lot of gains in the session but I think tonight we can fine tune the engine-braking with the data we got. That’s the area that the bike really revolves around and we need to sort that out before we alter the chassis. I felt comfortable on the bike but it was quite windy out there - to be honest, they weren’t the best conditions to ride in, so I guess it’s work in progress and I’m looking forward to capitalising on what we’ve learned. Tomorrow our bike should be more precise than race-ready, shall we say?

Leon Haslam – P14, 1m33.402s

I wasn’t going to go out if the conditions were as dodgy as they were this morning but if it rains tomorrow I needed to get a banker in. I managed to do that and get in the top 15 in case it rains, and I only got two laps in dodgy conditions. We made a few adjustments to the bike which helped the knee but in that session I had no pain killers, no strapping, nothing, so for me it can only get better from now. I’m going now to get it iced up and have some more treatment and make a better plan for tomorrow morning.

Pieter Breddels – technical co-ordinator

It’s good to have Leon back on the bike, which he can ride! We are now in the process of making the bike a little bit more comfortable for him, but because of the weather we didn’t do a lot of laps. He finished 14th but we’ll continue tomorrow and see how it goes. Jonathan was fast straight out of the box in this afternoon’s dryer conditions. There’s not a lot more to say about today, which was dominated by the weather. Tomorrow it’s supposed to improve, so we’ll get a better idea in the morning.

The Isle of Man TT — There’s an App for That

The Isle of Man TT Theres an App for That isle of man tt iphone android app 635x425

Tomorrow starts the Isle of Man TT — one of the greatest two-wheeled motoring events on this earth. Two weeks of epic motorcycle racing on city streets, if you haven’t been to the TT yet, you really must schedule a trip to meet the Manx. Until you can book those travel plans, we have the next best thing (besides following the TT on A&R, of course): the Isle of Man TT smartphone app.

While the TT app has rider profiles, weather updates, and a constant news stream all for free, we think you will want to spend the £1.49 ($2.25) to get the live-timing and video pass. Complete with a live broadcast from Manx Radio, fans both on the Isle and here back in the US can get a pretty comprehensive TT experience of what is happening on the TT course during race and practice sessions.

You won’t get the wind blast as bikes rocket past you at triple-digit speeds, but this is the next best thing. You can find the Isle of Man TT application in the Apple iTunes store here, and Android users find it in the Google Play store here. 31hrs and counting until the bikes are on the Mountain Course, get excited people.

Moto2™: Scott Redding is the man firmly in charge

Marc VDS Racing Team's Scott Redding is the man firmly in charge as the Moto2™ filed descends on Mugello for the fifth race of the championship at the Gran Premio d'Italia TIM.Following his first-ever win in Moto2™ with a calculated ride in Le Mans in tricky conditions, the Brit will be hopeful that this signals the start of a winning streak. However he will face fierce competition, arguably none more so than from Tuenti HP 40 riders Esteve Rabat and Pol Espargaro, who aim to get back to winning ways after both simultaneously crashed out of the race in France. Italtrans Racing Team's Takaaki Nakagami will be a similar threat, with the Japanese also underestimating conditions as he was leading the last race before dropping his bike in the gravel.Redding's teammate Mika Kallio is proving to be an ever-lurking threat, whilst Desguaces La Torre SAG Maptaq's Xavier Simeon will be brimming with confidence after his podium in Le Mans. Technomag carXpert's Dominique Aegerter, who currently lies fourth in the world championship has been a steady performer throughout and could pose a podium threat, whilst the likes of Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2's Nico Terol, Came IodaRacing Project's Johann Zarco and NGM Mobile Forward Racing's Alex de Angelis and Mattia Pasini will also be ones to watch. The Moto2™ grid will be graced with one wildcard in Mugello in the shape of Frenchman Lucas Mahias with the Prosport Moto team.World Championship Standings Moto2™1- Scott Redding GBR Kalex 762- Tito Rabat SPA Kalex 523- Mika Kallio FIN Kalex 474- Dominique Aegerter SWI Suter 47 5- Pol Espargaro SPA Kalex 41

Daily Motorcycle News • FIXI CRESCENT SUZUKI SET FOR DONINGTON WSB

FIXI CRESCENT #SUZUKI SET FOR #DONINGTON #WSB

Team Suzuki Press Office - May 21.

FIXI Crescent Suzuki is in England this weekend for the European round of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship at Donington Park; an event that the team considers its first 'home' race of the season.

With the team's title sponsors, FIXI, based in London and the squad's operational headquarters at Crescent in southern England, plus the majority of the squad, including racer Leon Camier, hailing from the UK, the Donington event is a real homecoming for the Suzuki WSBK outfit.

Camier is hoping to be fully fit at Donington following the knee injury he sustained earlier in the season that has seen him compete at below full-strength at the last two events. He has worked hard on his fitness and will be heading to his home race in a positive and invigorated frame of mind following a tough training regime to build his race fitness and stamina.

Jules Cluzel is returning to a circuit that holds fond memories for him from last season. The Frenchman immediately made himself at home around the Donington layout, as he took Pole Position in the Supersport class and followed that with third in the race. His ability to quickly-learn circuits on the Yoshimura-powered GSX-R will again be put to the test as he continues with his impressive rookie season in the Superbike arena. He is still suffering from the after-effects of the accident at Monza that cost him the nail on his little finger, but he is determined to not let that hinder him this weekend.

The 4,023m-long Donington Park circuit is round five of this season's championship, set in a natural amphitheatre in the Derbyshire/ Leicestershire countryside; and has many exciting corners set over its elevation changes. It is one or the riders' favourite circuits of the year and not many tracks have a sight to compare with the entire field roaring down Craner Curves on the first lap - possibly one of the best stretches of asphalt on the entire calendar.
FIXI Crescent Suzuki will start the weekend with practice sessions on Friday and Saturday, which will hopefully see Camier and Cluzel advance to the Superpole on Saturday afternoon where the pair will be challenging for the best grid positions for Sunday's two 23-lap races.

Leon Camier:

"I am really looking forward to Donington Park; it's great to race at home and I'm sure we'll have a big crowd there to cheer us on. I have been working hard to get fully fit and now hope my injuries allow me to push to 100% and get the FIXI Crescent Suzuki up to where we need to be. The GSX-R's engine performance has improved massively; we now need to focus on getting out of the slow corners cleanly and putting the power to the ground! Donington is one of those tracks where outright speed is not a necessity, so that should be an advantage to us."

Jules Cluzel:

"Donington is a really important race for the whole team, it is a totally English squad, with the exception of me and another guy - so I guess I will need to be a 'Rosbif' for the weekend! My finger is still quite sore and if I put gloves on, it is painful, but it is only a finger and it won't stop me from riding. I was really disappointed after Monza because I think we had the chance of a good result in both races, but some bad luck and I think an unfair decision for the ride-through cost us. We have to put that behind us now and start working hard again at Donington; it is a track I really like and one that I went very well at last season. I know some of the guys have huge knowledge of the place - including Leon - so it won't be easy, but I will try to learn as quickly as possible and hopefully give all our sponsors and fans something to cheer about on Sunday."

Raga rules in USA

Adam Raga – Gas Gas has taken control of the 2013 FIM Trial World Championship thanks to his double victory at the US Trial Grand Prix, and now heads Toni Bou Repsol Montesa by a single point in the early title race. Raga recorded his first ever GP win in America back in 2001 and was also the recipient of the famous Wagner cup when he also was victorious at the Trials Training Center at Sequatchie, Tennessee in 2006. Speaking about his weekend's work Raga said. "It was a long time since I won, so to win twice in a row is a fantastic feeling. I was riding well during the FIM X-Trial World Championship and also in Japan, but things just didn't go my way. I am very happy and to win here has given me back some motivation." "From now the championship continues, and for sure it will be very difficult to win again at the next rounds, but it feels like two years ago when I was very strong and can put together a strong challenge. I think I can fight to the end, because in the last years Toni (Bou) has dominated, but I hope that will not be the case this season." "My training has been good, but the level amongst al the top riders is very high, so you have to fight with all of them not just Toni. Let's see what happens now in Andorra."

2013 Donington World Supersport QP1 Results: Lowes Leaves It Late To Lap For Provisional Pole

Sam Lowes topped the timed session to get provisional pole over a second faster than Kenan Sofuoglu. Lowes left it until late in the session before heading out and only recorded four complete laps, claiming the top spot with three out of those four laps.

The riders are still over ten seconds off the lap record set by Sam Lowes in 2011, and Gabor Talmasci was the fastest man throughout most of the session, setting the fastest lap ten times, until Lowes and Sofuoglu fought for the pole slot. The track conditions are still holding the times up, but the weather promises to improve tomorrow.
