Junior WRC battle resumes in Greece

Story from www.wrc.com

The drivers will tackle ten Acropolis stages in identical two-wheel drive Ford Fiesta R2s, shod with Hankook gravel tyres and powered, for the first time, by GEM biofuel.*
The entries are led by Pontus Tidemand who won the opening round in Portugal and tops the Junior WRC standings wth 30 points. The Swede tackled the Acropolis in 2012, when he was a WRC Academy driver, but retired with a driveshaft failure when he was fighting for third.*
As part of his Acropolis preparations, Tidemand recently competed in Rally Sørland, the third round of the 2013 Norwegian Rally Championship, winning the 2WD category and finishing third overall in a Fiesta R2.*
"Winning the Junior WRC competition in Portugal was amazing, especially against such tough competition,” said Tidemand. “Acropolis Rally could be even harder as temperatures can be high and the stages are tricky to tackle in an R2. I know the event a little and I hope we can finish on the podium this year - but I know it won't be easy."
Spaniard José Suarez finished second to Tidemand in the Algarve and trails him by 10 championship points. Another former WRC Academy driver, Suarez was fifth in Greece in 2012, and received a confidence boost last weekend when he won the R2 category of the Rally Santander Cantabria – the second round of the Spanish Tarmac Rally Championship
"I'm looking forward to Acropolis Rally. It's a great event, very challenging and technical. With an R2 you have to be careful and clever, because you can easily damage the car on the rocky stages. We'll do everything we can to get the best result possible in Greece. I'm still looking for my first win on gravel."
Despite showing good pace in Portugal, Canary Islander Yeray Lemes – another former WRC Academy driver - and Norway’s Marius Aasen both suffered misfortunes and are looking to set the record straight in Greece.*
Joininhg them will be six other drivers: Andreas Amberg (FIN), Martin Koci (SVK), Niko-Pekka Nieminen (FIN), Sander Pärn (EST), Murat Bostanci and Michael Burri (SUI).*
Biographies of each of the 2013 Junior WRC competitors can be found here.*
