Belgian rider Georges Jobé passed away last Wednesday 19 December, aged 51. He won two FIM 250cc Motocross World Championship titles in 1980 and 1983, and three 500cc titles in 1987, 1991 and 1992. He was also member of the Belgian team winner of both the Motocross des Nations and the Trophée des Nations in 1980.Born on 6 January 1961, Georges Jobé is part of the Belgian Motocross Legend with the many riders who made this small European country on the top of the Motocross world. He started in the World Championship in 1979, aged 18. 1980 was his year, in which he went directly at the top, winning the 250cc Championship riding a factory 250 RM Suzuki, the Motocross des Nations and the Trophée des Nations for the Belgian team, all this aged 19. Things went not so good as foreseen afterwards, however. He lost the 1981 title against British rider Neil Hudson by two points, and the 1982 one against American Danny Laporte after suffering a couple injuries. He finally got his second title in 1983, and went to the 500cc class. It took him a couple of years of fights to reach his goal: first title in 1987. He then tried to clinch the 125cc title in order to have a world crown in each of the three MX classes, but he didn't succeed. Back in the 500cc, he won two other titles in 1991 and 1992. He suffered many injuries during his career and also after leaving the tracks, but he always stayed in the sport, working for KTM during some years.
