Penrith re-visited
Having been hosted in the Scottish Highlands for the last two years, the British Trial GP returns to south of the Scotland / England border for this weekend's two-day encounter that will bring the 2012 FIM Trial World Championship to a close. The Nord Vue venue near Penrith was last visited in May 2009, when it was the third stop of that season's tour. Not surprisingly it was Toni Bou - Repsol Montesa who was dominant here three years ago with back-to-back day wins at this hill top setting. However whilst Toni was winning, his team mate Takahisa Fujinami - Repsol Montesa was crashing, and heavily. So much so that a nasty fall towards the end of the opening lap saw the ever-popular Japanese rider forced to retire and take a trip to the local hospital for further investigations. With no broken bones confirmed, typically Takahisa was back in action just twenty-four hours later and was rewarded for his brave efforts with a fighting fourth spot and was only one mark away from a podium finish. Dougie Lampkin recorded one of his last ever rostrum places in front of his home fans on the first day of a well supported event by British Trial fans.
