Barzio revisited

The FIM Trial World Championship last visited the Italian town of Barzio back in 2009. Back then it was Adam Raga – Gas Gas who was the winner on a day when current championship leader Toni Bou – Repsol Montesa only just managed to make it onto the podium. Bou's teammate Takahisa Fujinami – Repsol Montesa was the runner-up on that occasion. Four years ago the action was played out over a course that included five sections in the river close to the paddock with the remainder set on the nearby rocky hillside in the shadow of the local ski lift. Tomorrow Trial will follow a similar, but shorter path. In 2009 the sheer length of the course played its part with almost the entire top ten incurring time penalties as they raced to complete the opening lap. This time around, with three laps of twelve sections over an eight kilometre loop planned, time should not be an issue. Away from the World Pro class back in 2009, a certain Matteo Grattarola who was then Sherco mounted won the Junior category after a close and day long fight with Alexz Wigg who was on board a Beta. Spain's Carles Traviesa – Gas Gas beat Maxime Warenghein – Sherco to take the win in the Youth category way back then. Tomorrow will see Barzio host round five of the 2013 FIM Trial World Championship.
