“Motorcycle-Superstore.com MX Holeshot Championships Up For Grabs at Halfway Point”

MEDFORD, Ore. (July 5) - The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship season is half over, but there's still no runaway favorite for the Motorcycle-Superstore.com Holeshot Championship in either the 450cc or 250cc class.

Justin Barcia (450cc) and Wil Hahn (250cc) are the leaders heading into this weekend's Red Bull RedBud National in Buchanan, Mich., but their leads are anything but safe with a dozen holeshots still up for grabs.

Each Moto 1 holeshot winner earns one point and the Moto 2 holeshot winner receives two points. If the same rider holeshots both motos at the same event, that rider gets an additional bonus point for a total of four points. The final payoff is a $25,000 check for the 450cc class winner and $15,000 for the 250cc titlist.

On the strength of moto sweeps in Thunder Valley and High Point (five holeshots overall), Barcia, the star rider for Muscle Milk Honda, leads second-place James Stewart of Yoshimura Suzuki by two points.

"These motocross races aren't easy so a good start can make a big difference," Barcia said. "I'm out there to get the holeshot and finish on the podium every race. Of course, so is everyone else."

Mike Alessi of the MotoConcepts team joined the fray with a weekend sweep of Budds Creek. He is three points behind Barcia.

GEICO Honda's Hahn has vaulted into the 250cc lead in just two races. He missed the first four races of the outdoor season while recovering from wrist surgery but swept his first race back at Budds Creek and picked up a third holeshot at Southwick a week ago.

"It felt awesome to charge right out of the gate like that," Hahn said. "This Motorcycle Superstore Holeshot Championship is the only one I have a chance to win this outdoor season. It will be awesome if I pull it off."

Three points behind Hahn is a pack of five riders trying to track him down. GEICO Honda teammates Eli Tomac and Zach Osborne are in that group along with Red Bull KTM stablemates Ken Roczen and Marvin Musquin. Jeremy Martin of MyPlash/Metal Mulisha Yamaha is also tied for second.

GEICO Honda rider Zach Bell also is three points behind Hahn but suffered a season-ending injury early on and is out of the chase.
