Lausanne, 27 March - Last week, the Doping-Free Sport Unit (DFSU) attended WADA's two-day symposium in Lausanne; this yearly event is organised by WADA and is open to all the anti-doping organisations that are signatories to the World Anti-Doping Code.SportAccord DFSU actively promotes doping-free sport by encouraging the sharing of information and expertise. The DFSU therefore took this opportunity to organise a technical workshop on the day before the Symposium with a dozen of its Members' operational anti-doping staff to discuss jointly aspects of the proposed Code in relation to the Code definition of Athlete. The Symposium was also a great platform to follow up individually with Members on particular issues and to discuss present and future collaborations with national anti-doping organisations (NADOs). Collaboration between international federations and national anti-doping organisations is paramount in the fight against doping and is strongly supported by SportAccord DFSU.Françoise Dagouret, Director of the DFSU, was invited to be one of the moderators, along with Joseph de Pencier, CEO of iNADO, for the roundtable on "Steps to implement and further develop investigations and Intelligent functions in ADOs". The panel consisted of a representative from WADA and several anti-doping organisations that are advanced in this area, namely IAAF, USADA and ASADA.Speaking further on the subject of intelligence and investigation in anti-doping, Françoise Dagouret concludes, "After these two days of intense symposium work, advice from the experts gathered in the Panel and practical case studies in the break-out sessions, there should be no doubt now in the minds of those in charge of anti-doping for our Members that intelligence and investigation are key to a comprehensive anti-doping programme, and are just as important as education and testing. Nevertheless, in terms of the sports movement, it still only appears to be the privilege of a handful of organisations that have significant resources and facilitated access to the public authorities and to NADOs that have developed this capacity. SportAccord DFSU is committed, in collaboration with its institutional partners, WADA, the IOC and iNADO, to explore simple, non-costly avenues that will enable all of its Members to move forward in this direction."
