The ace Briton will shortly be required to choose his preferred prize drive for next season but also needs to recruit a co-driver having worked with three different navigators during his title-winning campaign.
Evans’ prize for capturing the young driver-training category crown is a choice of five WRC rounds in a Super 2000-specification Ford Fiesta or a full programme in a Fiesta R2.
The 23-year-old said: “I’m still not sure what format my prize for 2013 will take. It could be 13 WRC events in a Ford Fiesta R2 or five events in the Super 2000 equivalent. I’d like to do as many WRC events as possible, but I’d also like to get more four-wheel-drive experience so we’ll have to wait and see.”
Evans was co-driven by Andrew Edwards, Phil Pugh and Seb Marshall in 2012. He now needs to select his partner for next term.
“I changed co-driver to Phil for Greece and that worked out fantastically well,” said Evans. “We won four out of four rounds together. He brought a lot of good experience and really got involved. I would have loved to have kept working with him, but he couldn’t commit to the future for both personal and work reasons. I sat with a new co-driver for Spain with a view to next year and beyond, but as yet I haven’t confirmed who’ll be my navigator next season.”
Whatever the choices he makes for 2013, Evans says he has learned plenty during his stint in the WRC Academy, which will be renamed the Junior WRC Championship for next year when M-Sport-prepared Fiesta R2s will continue to be used as standard.
“I’d only done three WRC events before this season and only two of those [Finland and France] were on this year’s WRC Academy calendar,” Evans explained. “To experience WRC rallies is a massive learning curve. The WRC Academy was an affordable way to gain this experience in a competitive field.”
