WRC news in brief

Story from www.wrc.com

  • Jari-Matti Latvala will make his second bid for victory in a Group 4 Audi Quattro this weekend when he tackles the Lahti Historic Rally in his native Finland. Latvala, a historic rally car enthusiast, has won the event twice before, in 2009 and 2010, in a Ford Escort Mk2.This time the Volkswagen Motorsport driver will be back behind the wheel of the 1982 quattro he first drove last month on the historic Rally Estonia. Latvala was on course to win in Estonia before the car’s gear lever broke on the penultimate stage.*
  • F1 star Robert Kubica [pictured] has revealed that he is a big fan of the social side of the WRC. The Pole, who will make his WRC asphalt rally debut later this month at Rallye Deutschland, said: “Other than the racing challenge I love the atmosphere at rallies. It's awesome even if you come from Formula 1.“Wherever I am, the fans are very friendly. And we are much closer to the fans here. I love to talk with them, give autographs and share my passion for rally-racing. Even at WRC events, rallying is a very popular and spectator-friendly sport. I enjoy this very much."
  • Rally is about waiting a long time for a beautiful short moment. So says Volkswagen in a beautifully atmospheric 2m 45s video from Rally Finland. Want a flavour of what it’s like to spectate from a Finnish forest? Then allow veteran rally marshal Olli J Ojanen – complete with pipe and sailor’s hat - to show you. Here's the link
  • Want more videos? The full highlights programmes from Neste Oil Rally Finland are now available in the wrc.com*video section. That’s more than one hour of yumping action. Enjoy!
