World Championship Speedway on its way to Finland in 2014

World Championship speedway is on its way to Finland for the very first time in 2014 after rights holders BSI Speedway agreed a three-year deal to stage the Finnish FIM Speedway Grand Prix at Tampere's Ratina Stadium. The inaugural Finnish SGP will take place on a semi-permanent speedway track that will be installed this year ahead of the winter months, allowing it to bed in before the event in 2014.The Ratina Stadium, a traditional football and athletics venue,  has hosted artists like Bon Jovi, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Bruce Springsteen in recent years and the Finnish SGP, promoted by former riders Jarno Kosonen and Kaj Laukkanen as well as the City of Tampere, is expected to draw in fans from far and wide.Commenting on the deal, BSI Speedway managing director Paul Bellamy said: "It's exciting to have agreed this deal to take the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series to Finland – a new territory for us. We hope this event will give speedway in the country a real boost and attract fans from across Finland and beyond."With Tampere less than 300 miles from St Petersburg, we hope plenty of Russian fans will cross the border to cheer on Emil Sayfutdinov, who is five points clear at the top of this year's World Championship and could go into the Finnish SGP as world No.1."I'd like to thank Jarno, Kaj and the City of Tampere for their efforts in making this deal a reality and we look forward to bring the best speedway riders in the world to Finland."Promoters Jarno Kosonen and Kaj Laukkanen said: "It has been a long but joyful negotiation with BSI and now we can start the hard work. We would like to thank Paul Bellamy, Torben Olsen and rest of the BSI team for this opportunity to host the first ever Finnish FIM Speedway Grand Prix here in Finland. We hope to give the big speedway family a great show and welcome everybody around the word to Tampere."The date and tickets for the inaugural Finnish FIM Speedway Grand Prix will be announced in the next few weeks, updated information will available via the speedwaygp.com website and SpeedwayGP social media channels.
