MOTUL FIM Ice Speedway Gladiators World Championship Final 3: 9 - 10 March 2013, Assen (The Netherlands). After two exciting days in Assen, Russian Daniil Ivanov still leads the race for the 2013 title but compatriot Dmitry Koltakov has reduced the margin. The first day produced some tight racing with a few crashes in front of some 5000 spectators and it was Kolkatov who took the honours with a seven-ride maximum to reduce leader Ivanov's advantage to only three points; the Khomitsevich brothers both took 16 points to confirm the superiority of the Russians. Frankie Zorn was again the best of the rest and with Harald Simon suffering the effects of a crash earlier in the week in the Russian Elite League two further falls here did little to improve his chances. Eduard Krysov was also the innocent victim of a fall with fellow-countryman Pavel Chaika and withdrew from his last two rides with leg and arm injuries. Krysov's injury prevented his participation in the second day's racing which was less eventful but again a showpiece for the remaining Russians. Although Kolkatov won a storming Final in which the lead changed four times, Ivanov in second place also scored 20 points so that the overall margin between the two remains at 3 points. Ivanov dropped his only point in the Final when Kolkatov took revenge for his defeat when the two had met in a hard fought Heat 18. Vitaly Khomitesevich was third on 15 points with younger brother Dmitry 14. Local reserve Simon Reitsma replaced Krysov but failed to score. Frankie Zorn confirmed his consistency scoring 12 but Harald Simon still less than one hundred per cent fit could manage only 8.As the Gladiators move on to the next round in Germany next weekend the leading scorers are:1Daniil IVANOV RUSSIA 1182Dmitry KOLTAKOVRUSSIA 1153Dmitry KHOMITSEVICHRUSSIA 934Vitaly KHOMITSEVICH RUSSIA735Pavel CHAIKARUSSIA686Franz ZORN AUSTRIA 607Harald SIMON AUSTRIA498Eduard KRYSOVRUSSIA459Stefan SVENSSONSWEDEN3810Gunther BAUERGERMANY27 The title chase moves to Inzell, Germany for Final 4 on 16 & 17 March.
