Nakagami tops Redding

Amid ideal conditions at the Northamptonshire venue, Nakagami (Italtrans Racing Team) pipped Redding (Marc VDS Racing Team) by just three hundredths of a second, while Zarco (Came Iodaracing Project) collected his third front row slot of the campaign but missed out on second place by a single thousandth. Espargaro (Tuenti HP 40), who was engaged in a small battle with Redding during final practice this morning, will line up sixth and on the second row behind teammate Tito Rabat and Interwetten Paddock Moto2 Racing's Tom Luthi. Heading into Sunday's race, there are 21 points between Redding and Espargaro atop the standings. Brno winner and Redding's teammate Mika Kallio has qualified seventh, sharing the third row with Technomag carXpert's Dominique Aegerter and Maptaq SAG Zelos Team's Xavier Simeon. Jordi Torres, who suffered an accident in practice earlier on, completes the top ten for Aspar Team Moto2. There were contrasting fortunes for the second and third British riders. While wildcard Gino Rea managed 20th place on the grid with his privately-entered Gino Rea Montaze Broz Racing machine, Tech3's Danny Kent – whose contract has been renewed for the 2014 season – was highly disappointed to end a promising day in 27th position following a crash early in qualifying. He had finished practice in sixth place.

Xena XX15 Alarm Disc Lock

Heading out to get on your bike and finding it missing is nightmare material. Xena Security, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of alarmed lock technology, helps keep these nightmares at bay with products like the XX15 showcased here.

The Xena XX15 kills two birds with one stone by combining an alarm with a disc lock. The XX15 is an ultra-tough, stainless steel bodied disc lock with a 14mm carbide-reinforced pin that can repel hammer, drill and freeze-spray attacks. The tough capabilities are backed by an equally tough looking exterior that can act as a visual deterrent to all but the most determined thieves. Should someone be determined enough try to tamper with the bike or the lock itself, the XX15 also packs an audible punch. Internal sensors detect shock and motion, which trigger a 120 decibel alarm (roughly the equivalent of an ambulance siren at 10 ft). The internal alarm module automatically detects the brake disc and arms itself when the pin is locked while on the disc. An audible beep notifies you that it is armed and then waits 10 seconds before the sensors are active.

Carrying a Xena XX15 Alarm Disc Lock with you is a great way to secure your bike and give you more peace of mind. You can get one of your own by getting in touch with Brad through this forum, or by calling 866.931.6644 ext 810 to order. Is email more convenient? Feel free to send those to FORUM at RIDERSDISCOUNT dot COM and we’ll get back to you right away!

The Xena XX15 Alarm Disc Lock comes with everything you need to secure your bike - the lock itself, three keys, and a long-lasting lithium ion battery.

The key unlocks the 14mm thick, carbide-reinforced locking pin.

Nikita Smith – A future champion?

Although only recently having turned sixteen years old, Nikita Smith – Gas Gas has already made her presence felt in the FIM Women's Trial World Championship. The young British female rider is now a familiar face as part of the series having made her debut in Germany back in 20111 aged just thirteen years and eleven months. The ever-smiling teenager has come along way since she finished down in twenty-fifth place at Grossheubach at her maiden Trial Grand Prix. Later the same season Smith was to start to show her true potential as she then placed eleventh in the Czech Republic to claim her first ever points in the FIM Women's Trial World Championship having just celebrated her fourteenth birthday. Five further solid points scoring rides during the 2012 campaign, when her best result was eighth, was to put Nikita in eleventh spot in the overall rankings come the close of last season. After a disappointing opening day to the 2013 FIM Women's Trial World Championship, when she only collected a single point for fifteenth place, Smith bounced back brilliantly the following day to record a career best sixth place in Andorra. It is just this kind of performance at such a young age and against far more experienced riders that is suggesting that Nikita could just be a future champion in the making. Time will tell if Smith can make it to the top.

Flash2Pass Garage Door Opener Kit

Don’t bother fumbling with keys, the garage door opener that’s in your pocket (which might not work if it’s been raining) or otherwise have to jump off your bike just to operate the garage door with the Flash2Pass Remote Garage Door Opening System. This two piece kit comes with everything you need to install a convenient garage door remote system on your bike that operates with two flashes of the high beam. You’ll never have to worry about batteries again either because it draws energy from the power supply that’s on your motorcycle, scooter or ATV. You can even use it on your car, snowmobile – really anything that runs on 12V. Up to six remotes can be programmed to work with one receiver.

The receiver can be used to replace the button in your garage or piggyback on the one you already have installed so, you don’t need to replace the remotes for all of your vehicles unless you want to. The lightweight transmitter itself taps into the high beam circuit of your ride with the included Posi-Tap connectors making two flashes of the brights all it takes to open or close your garage.

You can get yours by giving Brad a call at 866.931.6644 ext 810, or by contacting him through this forum. Is email more convenient? Feel free to send those to FORUM at RIDERSDISCOUNT dot COM and we’ll get back to you right away!

The complete system as it comes out of the box. Compatible with just about any garage door opener system built after 1982.

The weather-proof transmitter taps into the high-beam circuit of your ride using the included Posi-Tap connectors. Two flashes of your brights are all it takes to open or close your garage door. Extra transmitters are available for your other vehicles.

This receiver/garage door button wouldn’t look out of place in the garage.

Rain Dodging!

Last minute ride today, thought I wouldn't get to, lots of scattered rain and a grim forecast proved to be better than thought. Took the opportunity to hit some local gaps & some BRP miles so I wasn't too far from home if I did indeed get soaked. Made quite the nice loop too, I was in three different counties and crossed several gaps.

1st up - Betsy's Gap. This is a quick stretch of curves, that leads you to a couple other good stretches. You can head on to Hot Springs for and awesome state park section or pick up NC63 for Dogget Mountain.

Top of Betsy's Gap & county line:

Made a turn at Trust, NC onto NC 63 for Dogget Mountain:

Next up: Dogget Gap, atop Dogget Mountain & crossing into Buncombe County. This has good sections on both sides, the east face is a very tight mix of turns and can catch you off guard.

From there I crossed back into Haywood County via Willow Creek Gap, and then into back into Buncombe on Hookers Gap. No pictures of either unfortunately. Hookers Gap drops you right onto NC151 which is a very fun way to get to the BRP.

On the BRP I first came to Mt Pisgah. where the Pisgah Inn and Restaurant are found. Pisgah TV tower:

Then came the fog. For those not familiar with Parkway fog, it comes on fast, sudden and cold. You can go through a tunnel and go from clear to almost zero visibility. It can also be pretty chilly if you're wearing mesh or perf gear.

Graveyard fields was the next major area I passed. You can see where it got its name from the sign.

On to Devil's Courthouse. Cherokee legend was if you were accused of a execution-worthy crime, you came to this rock outcropping, and threw yourself off. If you were innocent, the devil would blow you back up to the rock. The reason behind this, is very occasionally, there are very powerful thermal winds that shoot straight up the face of the rock and could indeed blow someone back up. I don't recommend testing this though.

Last stop: A quick look at my town from the parkway. The haze is pretty bad so you can't see much. The lake in roughly the center of the picture is the town watershed that supplies the city water system. It is very protected being surrounded by national park, and fishing is not allowed either, so the city water is very drinkable and clean.

A couple vids:

Betsy's Gap - Found a random dog sleeping in one of the lanes, then found a log truck too. I had cut my camera off before nearly whacking a wild turkey though.
Betsy Gap

Dogget Mountain - Aggressive run, found the limitations of a single front disc setup... Thank goodness for engine braking!!!

Day Of Champions Raises Over 250,000 Euros For Riders For Health

The annual Day of Champions at Silverstone circuit has been a roaring success. The combined activities raised over 250,000 euros for Riders for Health, with some 90,000 of that being generated by the auction. See the Riders for Health press release below for full details:

MotoGP™ paddock and fans raise over £200,000 [€250,000] for Riders for Health

Thousands of MotoGP™ fans flocked to Silverstone ahead of the British MotoGP to support Riders for Health’s annual fundraising event, Day of Champions, raising an incredible £216,249 [€253,562] for the organisations’ lifesaving work in Africa. The whole MotoGP paddock came together on Thursday (29 August) to support the championships’ official charity.

Riders for Health’s co-founder and CEO, Andrea Coleman, explained the appeal behind one of the UK’s largest outdoor fundraising events: ‘What’s fascinating about MotoGP is that it is the only sport in the world that’s ever grown a humanitarian movement, to deliver health care in Africa. Ladies return to battle, as Sanz returns to series

After more than a two month retreat the 2013 FIM Women's Trial World Championship will burst back into action this coming weekend with the news that reigning FIM Women's Trial World Champion Laia Sanz will rejoin the seriesin an attempt to defend her crown despite having missed the opening event. The French ski resort of Isola 2000 will host this weekend's round. This will be the second two-day competition of the season, the first being in Andorra back in June and will only be followed by the closing one day event in La Chatre, France the following Friday. The 2013 FIM Women's Trial World Champion will be determined by the rider who has the best three results from the five counting days, so Sanz remains a real contender despite having been absent in Andorra.Britain's Rebekah Cook – Beta currently heads the general standings by two points from her compatriot and preseason favourite Emma Bristow – Sherco following the initial encounter in Andorra. Cook claimed a surprise victory on the first day in Andorra, after Bristow made a mistake regarding her overall time that saw her drop to third spot despite having been leading on the opening lap. Spain's Sandra Gomez – Ossa was the grateful recipient of the runners-up spot on this occasion.Bristow made amends on day two by absolutely dominating proceedings, her winning margin of twenty-one marks over Cook showed Emma's real class and at least went some way to cancelling out the mistake she had made twenty-four hours earlier. Gomez once again completed the podium to cement herself amongst the front-runners this season and to give herself every chance of matching if not beating the top three ranking she secured at the end of 2012.France's Marilyne Journet – Beta will be hoping that home support in Isola will spur her on and could just make it on to the podium at the French Grand Prix given the career best fourth place she achieved on day one in Andorra.Twenty-seven year old Journet is an experienced member of the FIM Women's Trial World Championship and currently holds joint fourth in the overall standings tied on twenty-two points with Spain's Mireia Conde – Beta. By recording tow fifth places at round one, Conde also claimed her best ever result since first joining the series back in 2008.Twenty-eight year old British rider Katy Sunter – Gas Gas is another lady who excelled in the Andorran mountains. Her fourth spot on the second day of the opening round was yet another career best ride that was recorded over the initial weekend of action to confirm the progress the women riders have made over the closed season. Katy's 8 – 4 showing leaves her in sixth position in the championship table, but only one point behind fourth placed rider Journet, with much still to ride for.Germany's Theresa Bauml – Ossa, Sara Trentini – Beta, Martina Balducchi – Scorpa both from Italy and Spain's Elisabet Solera – Gas Gas are the ladies that currently occupy seventh to tenth places respectively in the general standings. Bauml's best placing in Andorra was seventh on day one, whilst Trentini went one better by taking sixth spot on the same occasion, which was her best ever result in the series. One other rider to watch out for this weekend is Britain's fifteen year old Nikita Smith – Gas Gas who scored an amazing sixth position last time out, and looks to be a real star of the future in the making even at this young age.

Mikkelsens pacenote system?

Hello 2 all,

in the german "Rallye-Magazin" forum we discuss about the pacenote system of Mikkelsen.
One reason of the nostart of Mikkelsen in the "Deutschland-Rallye" were published as: Nobody knows his pacenote system, to replace his codriver.
One answer in the forum was: What about the gravel crew - they have to understand the pacenotes?

Now my question: Who know the special pacenote system of Mikkelsen? How does it look like? What is so special about it?

Now is published: An irish codriver will guide Mikkelsen thru the Rally of Australia.
So i mean: The pacenotesystem cannot be so strange.

Who knows more?
Greetings from Germany...2nd-driver

Vortex V3 Gas Cap

The first five-minute call comes over the PA system, and you go to start your bike - only to have the low fuel light come on. You grab the fuel can when you realize you don’t know where you put the key for your OEM gas cap. You’ve got a sweet keyless ignition but you never got around to buying a keyless gas cap from Riders Discount - and now you regret it. That may be a familiar scenario for some of you, so you know it’s not a fun situation to be in. With Vortex’s recently released V3 gas cap you won’t to worry about that happening again.

The Vortex V3 is designed to be easy to use, safe and lightweight. Its coarse threads let you quickly secure the cap without cross threading and the large contoured finger tabs make it easier to open than the last model – even with gloved hands. The V3 also received a new safety lock switch to prevent it from opening unintentionally due to contact or vibrations. Installation is pretty painless since it is vented with integrated dual check valves, so all you need to do is remove the OEM gas cap. Doing so will not only get you an easier to use cap, but it will allow you to cut some weight since the whole package weighs only .4 lbs (up to 55% lighter than your stock setup).

These aren't listed on our website yet, so call Brad at 866.931.6644 ext 810 for your forum pricing! You can also send any questions by private message through the forum, or email FORUM at RIDERSDISCOUNT dot COM and we’ll get back to you right away!

The cap features large contoured tabs to allow easy use - even with large fingered race gloves.

The addition of the safety lock prevents the cap from coming loose due to contact or vibration. This safety lock comes in silver by default, but you can also order optional replacement tabs in black, red, blue or gold.

The coarse threads of the V3 mean that you won’t have to worry about cross threading when closing it in a hurry.

Saturday Summary at Brno: Of Qualifying (Mis)Practice, Getting a Tow, & New Dunlops

You could have earned yourself a tidy sum today if you’d correctly predicted the MotoGP front row. Though Cal Crutchlow, Alvaro Bautista and Marc Marquez are all familiar faces on the front row, the combination of the three was quite unexpected. Crutchlow earned his second ever MotoGP pole at Brno, shattering the pole record on his way to doing it. Bautista was on the front row at Laguna Seca, but his previous front row appearance […]

Analyzing The Details Of The 2014 World Superbike And EVO Regulations

It's been a busy couple of days at FIM headquarters, as they have been putting the finishing touch to new rules for both the World Superbike and MotoGP series. The biggest news was the release of the detailed technical regulations for the World Superbike series for 2014 and beyond. The new rules had been announced in early August, but the precise details had to wait until now. The one thing missing from the announced rules is any mention of an overall price cap. That, presumably, will come at a later date.

Though the changes outlined in the new reuglations are extremely detailed, they can be boiled down to a few major points: the introduction, of the EVO class, which allows Superstock engines in Superbike chassis; the introduction of price caps on suspension and brakes; restrictions on gear ratios; and the introduction of an engine allocation system similar to that in MotoGP, and also in Superstock.

The engine allocation system had long been expected, after Carmelo Ezpeleta made a series of barbed (and misleading) attacks on the number of engines supposedly used by Aprilia in WSBK in 2011 and 2012. The limit on the number of engines is relatively low: each rider will have 8 engines to last a season with. Though that seems reasonable for some 13 or 14 race weekends, that requires the engines to last for 26 or more races. As in MotoGP, the engines are sealed to prevent maintenance on crankshaft, bottom and top ends and the valve train, other than camchain tension adjustment. The crankcases, cylinders, cylinder heads and valve and cam covers are sealed. Seals may be broken to allow gearbox ratios to be changed - see below - but also as in MotoGP, that can only be done in the presence of a technical official from the series.

Anyone going to Rallye France?

I have just being curious of how much will cost me to go to Rallye France and to my surprise I found cheap tickets with Eurostar to Strasbourg, so I am intrigued to book them. Anyone else going this year? Maybe willing to share hotel room and car?

Is there spectators entrance at the stages? Also how friendly is the organisation and marshals? Any tips are welcome guys!

Hope I ll decide in favour, and get the chance to see the last battle of the Sebs!

Sunday Summary at Brno: Three Great Races

There must be something in the Moravian water. Three races at Brno on Sunday, and all three genuine barnburners. What’s more, the podiums had a good mixture of experience, age, and nationality. Only five of the nine were Spanish, while in Moto2, there wasn’t a single Spaniard on the podium. And at the end, the championships in all three classes got a little more interesting. Race of the day? Impossible to say, but the 2013 […]

FIM Sidecar World Championship in Schleiz - Germany

The penultimate round of the FIM Sidecar World Championship heads to the oldest racing circuit in Germany, it was first raced on in 1923, and the distance for one lap was 6.805 km long, the circuit runs in an anti clockwise direction.  The track has changed a lot over the years, now the distance over a lap is 3.805 km; it is still classed as a road circuit, and has been known to be tough on man and machine, the long flat out down hill section to the bottom hairpin is not for the fainthearted.Leading the championship is Pekka Paivarinta and Adolf Hanni on 146 points; they will need to keep up the good results as second in the championship is Jorg Steinhausen and Ashley Hawes who are only 17 points behind, with two races over the weekend a lot of points can be had and Steinhausen will be trying his hardest to bridge this gap and possibly top the table.  Steinhausen will need to watch though as third in the championship is Ben and Tom Birchall who are on top form just now, they have won the last four races, with pole possisions and fastest laps too, they are sitting third in the championship on 116 points. With this being their first full year competing in the championship, Scott Lawrie and James Neave are still in fourth place on 87 points.  They had a poor outing in Sachsenring, but two fourth places in Oschersleben gave them a small cushion to fifth place team Michael Grabmuller and Manfred Wechselberger who are sitting with 65 points.Grabmuller and Wechselberger will need to be on their best form though, as Kurt Hock and Enrico Becker are only one point behind them, Hock and Becker are slowly creeping up the table which is good for them after the big crash they had in Croatia, and they know this track very well, which should be good for them.Ten points off Hock and Becker is Bennie Streuer and Geert Koerts, they have been having a steady season so far and are getting faster as the season goes on, they too will need to be on top form as only four points behind them is Petri Makkula and Timo Kartialla on 50 points.Another weekend with a lot of track time, which the teams will appreciate. There will be a 11 lap sprint race on Saturday and a 22 lap Gold race on Sunday.

Speed & Strength SS1100 Helmet

If you’re considering a helmet on the lower end of the price-scale, you definitely want it to be both comfortable and safe. The Speed & Strength SS1100 helmet ticks both the comfort and safety boxes, and it does so at just over the $100 mark.

The Speed & Strength SS1100 features an aerodynamic shell that cuts through the air very quietly, but still vents a good amount of air. Two large front vents channel air to the forehead and scalp, while a series of exhaust vents at the back allow for warm air to be pulled out. A third vent on the chin bar brings air in the the front of the face and up along the faceshield. Speaking of the faceshield, the SS1100 uses Speed and Strength’s “Lock ‘n Load” pivots that make swapping shields a breeze. When looking through the shield, or at the bottom of the SS1100 it is easy to see the red cheek pads and liner. This is the Cool-Core liner system, which isn’t only visually striking, but also very comfortable and efficient at wicking away moisture so that it can evaporate and be pulled out through the exhaust vents at the back.

One of the biggest selling points of the Speed & Strength SS1100 is the weight. A medium weighs in at only 3 pounds and 4 ounces, making this very light for a helmet that is both DOT and ECE approved. This lightness is very apparent when riding, and adds a lot to the comfort factor.

The Speed & Strength SS1100 is a solid choice for anyone looking for an affordable, no-frills helmet that is comfortable, light and safe. If you are interested in the Speed Shop boots, or any other Speed & Strength gear, you can get in touch with Brad through this forum, or by calling 866.931.6644 ext 810 to for more information. Is email more convenient? Feel free to send those to FORUM at RIDERSDISCOUNT dot COM and we’ll get back to you right away!

The Speed and Strength SS1100 62 Motorsports helmet is available in solid colors, as well as a variety of graphics. The 62 Motorsports version shown here is available in Green (pictured), Red, and Black.

The graphics are very high quality for the price.

The excellent Cool-Core lining is fully removable for washing. The SS1100 also features a quick release strap.

WRC 3: Drama-free victory for Chardonnet

Story from www.wrc.com

Thanks to his eight stage wins earlier in the event, the Frenchman began Sunday’s competition with a comfortable 2m45.6s lead over closest rival Keith Cronin.*
Unsurprisingly, Chardonnet took no risks on the final two stages, giving away a little of his advantage to safeguard his lead, before finally taking the victory by 2m24.3s. Germany’s Christian Riedemann claimed the final podium place, more than 20 minutes further back. All three – like all the WRC 3 crews in Germany - were driving Citroen DS3 R3 cars.
“We can be pleased with the result this weekend. The conditions were really tough and we managed to keep out of trouble,” said Chardonnet. “You had to make the right calls, at the right time. We did just that, and it paid off. I’d really like to thank Thibault [de la Haye – co-driver] and the team who did a great job and gave me a fantastic DS3 R3!”
Cronin meanwhile admitted he had been fortunate to finish as the runner-up. After picking up a puncture on the 14 kilometre-long Sauertal stage, the three-time British Rally champion lined up at the start of Moselland nine minutes late having repaired a technical problem on his car.
He managed to maintain good pace to hold onto his second position even though he was hampered by another car that went off on Sunday’s first stage.
“We’re pleased with the result. The conditions were really tough but the rally worked out well in the end,” commented the Irish driver.
After going off on SS4, Riedemann wasn’t expecting to finish on the final podium. However, having rejoined the rally under Rally2 rules on Saturday, he matched the pace of the leaders and gradually closed on Mohammed Al Mutawaa. After claiming the fastest time on the first run on Dhrontal, he managed to snatch third place from the Emirati driver.
“What a weekend! Obviously, we’re disappointed with this result at our home event, but we’re not giving up yet, however. We’ll be trying to win in France,” he said.
Meanwhile, the winner of the Abu Dhabi Young Driver Selections said he was ‘thrilled’ with his first experience on tarmac in the DS3 R3. He finished fourth in the standings.
Quentin Gilbert rounded off the top five after a testing rally. Forced to retire after a technical problem before starting the second loop on Friday, the young Frenchman rejoined on Saturday under Rally2 rules. Unfortunately, he hit a rock within the first few kilometres of Saturday’s first stage and had to retire for a second time. On Sunday, the winner of the 2012 French Citroën Racing Trophy was hampered by a puncture.
