WRC 2 preview: Rally Finland

Story from www.wrc.com

  • Esapekka Lappi starts as favourite in the WRC 2 category as the Finn aims to make up for lost ground on his home round. The Skoda Fabia S2000 driver retired from the opening counter in Monte Carlo, but scored maximum points in Portugal and lies 68 points behind series leader Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari.*
  • The Qatari does not compete here and the man who stands to benefit most is Robert Kubica [pictured]. The Pole is fourth in the standings, having won the previous two rounds in Greece and Italy, and another strong performance here in a Citroen DS3 RRC could see the ex-Formula 1 driver move even closer to the top.*
  • In action for the first time in the WRC is the new Ford Fiesta R5, the first of the R5 category cars to appear at the top level. Elfyn Evans and Robert Barrable, second in Portugal on his only outing so far, are fancied to go well but keep an eye out also for Autotek-entered duo Eyvind Brynildsen, from Norway, and Jari Ketomaa, who will be a threat on home ground.*
  • Second-placed Nicolas Fuchs is also absent here, but Yazeed Al Rajhi returns in a Fiesta RRC for the first time since breaking vertebrae in a crash during the Ha'il International Cross-Country Rally in Saudi Arabia in March.

Up-Close with the 2013 Honda RC213V

The Honda RC213V and its predecessors have always been formidable machines in MotoGP, but for 2013 HRC has truly managed to make a peerless motorcycles for its four riders: Dani Pedrosa, Marc Marquez, Stefan Bradl, and Alvaro Bautista. In the past, the Honda was all about its motor and its ability to rocket out of the corners, whereas the Yamaha YZR-M1 was more about its chassis and the ability to have supreme edge-grip through the ...

Bell Star Carbon Race Day Helmet

Bell’s top of the line Star Carbon helmet is back for 2013 with new graphics and a revised shape. The new shape is based on the RS-1, which was introduced after the Star, and featured an extremely well fitting intermediate oval headform. Other than the shape, the Star Carbon goes relatively unchanged, and retains all the features that made it so popular to begin with.

As with the previous Bell Star Carbon helmets, this version uses an outer shell that is made from 100% carbon fiber. Bell spent a great deal of time engineering the shell to be not only lightweight and strong, but very aerodynamic as well. What they came up with was an angular shape with a uniquely contoured spoiler, both of which make this helmet extremely stable and resistant to buffeting. Air is also directed into the variety of strategically placed vents at the front in order to push warm, stale air out through the exhaust vents at the back. All vents are independently adjustable so that you can dial in the ventilation for a variety of conditions.

Another feature that goes unchanged is the shield system. The Star Carbon uses their fog and scratch resistant NutraFog II face shield in order to keep your view clear. It’s also treated with a potent anti-UV coating so that you don’t have to worry about your face being burnt red after a day’s ride in the sun. Bell’s 3Mode Shield allows you to quickly lock the visor down, crack it open for added ventilation and swap out faceshields with no tools required. And don’t forget to ask about a Bell Transitions SolFX Photochromatic faceshield. These visors have the same great benefits of the included unit, but also change their tint based upon lighting conditions. They darken quickly (~10 seconds) when the sun is out for squint-free daytime riding.

The new Bell Star Carbon comes in three different styles - the Matte Carbon, Airtrix Laguna, and the Race Day shown here.

If you would like to place an order, or get information on the Star Carbon Matte, or any other Bell helmet, you can get in touch with Brad through this forum or by calling 866.931.6644 ext. 810. MotoGP: FIM Confirms New Rules for Factory/Non-Factory Spec-Electronics, Engine, Fuel, & Entries for 2014

Rallye dos Sertões - Day 2

"Gringos" rule on bikes in a cautious-paced day. On quads, Poslish Sonik wonThe 21st edition of Rally dos Sertoes had a smooth start for competitors, who left Goiania and finished in Pirenopolis (GO). On bikes, foreigners dominated the grid with their 12-competitor legion among the 46 entrants. Today the best rider was Paulo Gonçalves (Speedbrain 450 Rally), first runner-up in the FIM World Championship, followed by Spaniard Marc Coma (KTM), leader. Third best rider was Frenchman Michael Metge (Yamaha). The best Brazilian rider was the Minas Gerais based Nielsen Bueno (Honda) - who won the Super Prime yesterday -, in 5th place. According to the organization, tomorrow the rally starts for real, towards Uruaçu, in a 287-Km special. There will be a total of 4,115 Km, from which 2,488 of timed sections in nine days of race."It was a very short day, I got acquainted with the roadbook, with the Brazilian rally style. I was not used to cattlegrids, but I liked a lot", said Gonçalves.Coma, who is directly dueling with the Portuguese in the dispute for the World Championship was also cool. "It was a good first day, some rocks, tiral, some fast sections, but it was tranquil overall".Two times champion of Sertoes (2006 and 2011), Frenchman Cyril Despres, debuting in Yamaha Racing and 4th best time of the day, praised the stage: "It was better than what I expected, a very nice special, I just lost a little time with a closed fence in Km 197, and I had to stop and open. I am happy to be back", he highlighted. The race is worth double points for the FIM Cross Country World Championship in categories bikes and quads. On quads, Polish Rafal Sonik (Honda TRX 700), winner of Sertoes in 2010, won the firs stage and praised the precise indications. "The road book was perfectly marked, almost impossible to miss, but I made a mistake myself. You know exactly what to expect. Today stretch was very smooth", he said.Brazilian Marcelo Medeiros (Yamaha Raptor), champion in 2012, finished second and "suffered" with the dust. "A very good day, I ate Jean Azevedo's dust, but Jean missed and I passed. During the trial I let him pass once again, and ate his dust, losing some time", he said.On UTVs, which debuted in the competition last year, the duo Regadas Filho/Andrews da Costa (Polaris RZR XP 900 EPS) won. "It was a perfect first day. The UTV went well, navigation 100% perfect. There was a heavy trial, which demanded care. We have to be more responsible in the first day".Tomorrow, after a fast liaison, the special starts with slow, farm roads and continues by medium-speed sections, varying trails with the amazing view of the crests and hills. The race enters a sugarcane plantation region, where the speed increases with a very good ground. After this, the special slows down once again until the end. MotoGP’s New Rules on ECUs & Factory Riders Explained

There was a small flurry of excitement when the minutes of the last meeting of the Grand Prix Commission, including rules on the spec-ECU and factory entries were announced last week. That was then followed by a bout of confusion, as everyone tried to figure out what all of the various changes meant, and what impact they may have on the series. It appears that the answer to that question is “not as much as you might ...

Bou moves closer to seventh title

Two wins at the British Trial Grand Prix over the weekend has seen Toni Bou – Repsol Montesa move closer to taking the 2013 FIM Trial World Championship. This would be his seventh successive outdoor title and would match the achievement of Dougie Lampkin. Jordi Tarres also holds seven FIM Trial World Championships, but his did not come all in a row. Speaking after his most recent wins, and after surviving a late crash Bou stated the following. "It was almost a perfect weekend right until nearly the end. The crash in section seven on the final lap was a big and painful one. As soon as I landed on the rock I knew it was quite serious, especially when I saw that the blood was coming out quickly. The team made a good reaction and did a good repair to get me to the finish. I am sore, but now that the doctor has closed the hole I should be OK in a few days. These two wins this weekend are very important for the championship, but we still have work to do in France."The final round of the 2013 FIM Trial World Championship will be played out in Isola 2000, France over 31st August / 1st September.

The Bikers Reunion Is Just Like Every Other Motorcycle Rally Except That It's Not Video

Earlier this summer we headed up to Northern Ontario to catch up with several thousand of our closest friends at the Bikers Reunion in Temiskaming Shores.

Not only is the event full of the usual motorcycle rally fun and general insanity, but bikers raised more than $100,000 for the cancer ward at a local hospital.

This weekend at MotoGP’s Red Bull US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca, I stopped by the Motus ten to give Lee Conn and Brian Case some grief, and to see how the production-ready Motus MST was looking. The bikes looked similar to their prototype form from two year’s ago, with obviously more fit-and-finish in the overall design. One of the big changes I noticed though was that Motus has dropped the industry standard analog tach ...
